they genuinely believe it’s something predetermined by biology and not due to effort, work and time spent to build a bond, when science has proven that to be false. incredibly frustrating for you i imagine and i truly applaud your patience to deal w this with 2 young kids, you’re better than me that’s for damn sure 😭

the elements of 'oh well you're just so good with her' sound a bit like a type of 'benevolent sexism' that also lets him off the hook by you being 'naturally' better with the kids, obvs you're better placed to make that distinction vs him being positive, but if it's a phenomenon you've not looked into before, it might be of interest and could contextualise some other behaviour

I am a boomer so pretty old. I hated my father. My earliest memory of feeling this way was when I was around 3. He was frightening. I never ever changed my mind. My mother tried so hard to build a bridge. Never worked. 💖💖💖

They simply could feel he didn’t really want them. It’s surprising he’s making some poor attempt of contact now. Probably the only remaining control he’s exercising. There’s yet hope he’s one day completely out of their life x

my ex set up a bed downstairs when we got home from the hospital having our youngest...it was posed as give you some space after your csection.... yes the baby was with me. it lasted until we moved so he was down therw for 6 months. never ever helped overnight. same with my eldest. He loved weponised incompetence but would still get cross when the babes wouldnt just be conent with him. If he ever had to get up for our kids when they were older he would just sleep on the floor next to them.... then complain he hadnt slept and that would be his excuse to be moody and go and nap for hours on end when not at work.... also i was the breadwinner so after mat leave (which i had to go back sooner to not lose out on money) so it was working full time and doing the night shifts with the baby. He paid no bills... i dont know why i put up with it for so long... 10 years in total.

do you ever feel guilt for the beginning of your 2nd daughters start to life? My partner left me when i was 32 weeks pregnant, we have a 5 year old together who was 4 at the time and my baby is now 12 weeks. I feel so much guilt for not having those nice slow early days. My first night home from the hospital I had a 5 year old to put to bed and a newborn. No help, just us

Oh yes!!! I was made to feel guilty. When I did ask him to help he would be short tempered with the baby and would shout at them so that I wouldn’t ask him to help xx
