That’s why he knew Orpheus was going to fail and look back, cause everything he does is about Eurydice.

“Brighter than the light of day.” In chant, he’s trying so hard to make the underground more appealing so she won’t leave again ☹️

I truly believe that when Persephone talks about how “oceans rise and people starve” she’s actively “showing” hades Eurydice in an attempt to put a face to the people suffering (because she becomes VERY attached to her and Orpheus in the sort time she knows them) and that’s why Eurydice gets caught in the storm of their argument as well, because Persephone put her on the spot - so of course Hades once again thinks that if he brings Eurydice DOWN to hadestown, it’ll show Persephone that 1. Humans are all the same (when the chips are down, they will sell out) 2. One of her FAVORITE humans will be there (another reason for her to stay) - it isn’t until Orpheus shows up and Persephone goes “I know this boy!” That Hades even focuses on Eurydice again, because he’s upset that his wife cares enough to try to save them both (cuz if Orpheus and Eurydice escape, wouldn’t Persephone one day do the same?) 😭 like he says he truly doesn’t care about either of them, just what their and his own actions reflect in Persephones eyes

Yes he made it brighter and hotter in the underworld for Persephone, but one of the only times you see the traditional colors of the underworld in Hadestown, (blues, blacks, dark colors) it's when Persephone sings her true passion for Hades in "How Long"...it wasn't just the sun she loved, it was her duty by birth to bring spring, but she loved Hades in her soul. That means something to me man.

this is one of the reasons why i dislike when people call hades the villain. like he did this all FOR HIS WIFE!!! everything he did is in the image of how he knows to show love. while yes, that doesn’t technically justify any of the bad stuff, it’s HIS version of TRYING. making it hot and bright to replicate the sun, so persephone will want to stay.. wanting to do all these things and be all these things FOR her. their story in this is so special to me 😭

it's really crazy. when you think about epic 1 and you go back and see old videos of them being Hades and Persephone. you can really match it up to that song.
