You can also stack sleeping pads like an inflatable one over a foam pad and add the r values

R value is a good starting point but there’s been many pads recently that optimize for and score high on the R-value standards test and then under perform in the real world. Likely due to difference in air temperature. I really trust Justin Outdoor’s reviews and experience- he’s one of the few people I see brining attention to the misleading R-Values that manufactures keep touting.

Unmentioned but not all R-values are the same! Different manufacturers use different fabrics that lead to a colder sleep and generally a thicker fabric is worth searching for
