Al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn al-Jawzī al-Ḥanbalī رحمه الله mentions in his book Kitāb al-Mughlīq the famous hadith regarding punishment in the grave: - Samurah ibn Jundub رضي الله عنه narrated: - “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to us: - ‘Last night two angels came to me. They woke me up and said: “Come with us.” I went along with them. - Then we came to a man lying on the ground. Another man stood over him with a large stone in his hand. *He threw the stone at the head of the man lying down and crushed his head with it.* Then the stone rolled away and the man walked after it to pick it up. By the time he returned, the man's head had already been restored to its original state. Subsequently, he did the same thing again as before. … Then they said to me: - ‘The first man you encountered, whose head was crushed by the stone, *is the man who studies the Qurʾān; subsequently, he does not recite it and does not act according to it. And he sleeps while neglecting the obligatory prayers.’* - (Disturber of the hearts - Ibn Jawzī; p.59 - Dar As-Sunnah publishing house)
