The production Atlas is 1.9 meters tall, weighs 90 kg and has 56 degrees of freedom. Its hands use tactile sensing in the fingers and palm, while its camera system provides a 360° view of the environment. The numbers are built around factory work. Atlas can repeatedly handle 30 kg loads, reach 2.3 meters and operate for around four hours on battery. During heavy-duty lifting, that drops to roughly two hours. When power runs low, the robot can autonomously swap its battery in about three minutes. Boston Dynamics is targeting jobs such as moving parts, machine tending, material handling and order preparation. These are repetitive industrial tasks where strength alone is not enough. Atlas also has to perceive objects, position its hands accurately, maintain balance and recover when a movement does not go exactly as planned. The real test is now happening outside research videos. A factory robot has to repeat useful work for hours, communicate with existing systems and operate safely around people and equipment. Boston Dynamics has Atlas deployments planned with Hyundai and Google DeepMind in 2026, pushing the humanoid closer to real industrial use. That will give the company something lab tests cannot fully reproduce: long shifts, changing workflows and real production pressure.
