@vkxander: Arguably the most infamous pirate of the eighteenth century, Blackbeard stands on the quarterdeck in all his glory, with his long black beard, braided with interwoven smoldering hemp fuses, head wreathed in smoke, and a heavy cutlass, glaring with dark menacing eye's, all meant to scare the enemy into submission. This master of psychology's M.O. was if you could terrify one's enemy into surrender then there would be no need for your men to spill blood Though Blackbeard's birthplace and background was obscure and his fame as a pirate lasted only a mere eighteen months, he nonetheless carved out his place in history terrorizing the shipping lanes from the Carolina's to the West Indies. Teach met his demise on November 22nd, 1718 off the coast of Ocracoke Island, N.C. when the Governor of Virginia took offense to Blackbeard and the Governor of North Carolina's cozy relationship, allowing him to live and trade among the locals. A battle ensued and after heavy hand-to-hand combat, Blackbeard fell to the deck from a sword slash to the throat. The death of Blackbeard marked the end of the "Golden Age" of piracy. #blackbeard #pirates
