@newyorker: Emma Watson and Gloria Steinem met for the first time almost ten years ago, in London. Watson was ostensibly there to discuss Steinem’s memoir “My Life on the Road.” Instead, the two spoke about erotica, the work of the researcher Valerie Hudson, the problem of gender inequality. Their friendship lasted until Steinem’s death, last Wednesday. On July 15th, Watson visited Steinem at her brownstone. The women spoke, in Steinem’s historical home, about patriarchy, politics, and marriage. “Eventually, Gloria has to go upstairs for another appointment,” Watson writes. “As I press my body to hers, trying to wrap my arms around her carefully, I know, with a strange certainty, that this will be the last time I see her.” At the link in our bio, Emma Watson (@emmawatson) remembers her friend Gloria Steinem.
