I overslept and I got a call from my supervisor. the call was "hey are you ok?" and I immediately jumped up and was like omg I'm so sorry I overslept. she laughed and was like that's fine, get here when you can. I was checking in to make sure everything was alright. and that's why she was the best manager I've ever had

I was at work on my break when I was notified my Grandma was in the hospital, dying. We were not busy. Any other day managers would ask if someone wants VGH and leave early. I was the top performer on the contract. I asked to leave early so I could say goodbye to my Grandma, I didn't expect them to say no. They said no, I instead ended up spending the time I could have been at the hospital trying to get that overridden. Before I could get that done, I was notified she passed. The manager said I could go home early now cause I would be too upset to finish my shift. I cried in the parking lot while a friend came to get me and take me home. I then had to bring proof of her funeral to get brevement. I ended up on leave not long after as I ended up sick from the stress (My Doctor told me I needed to go on leave). When my leave period was over and I was coming back, my landlord had submitted a notice to end tenancy for personal use so I had to move. The only affordable place I could find was too far to walk home from work (especially in the evening and no bus when I got off work) and they didn't want to change my hours or move me to a different contract to where my hours would be when the buses were running. My leave couldn't be extended but my doctor recommend that I quit my job and go on medical EI since the stress was making me sick. I'm still so fucking pissed that I didn't just leave work and go to the hospital to say goodbye to my Grandma.

My husband’s father passed away a week ago. His boss said, “I’m so sorry. Take as much time as you need. Where can we send flowers or make a charitable contribution to?” THAT’S the appropriate response. im so sorry this person had to go through this.

I fell at work on my 8month pregnant belly. I was high risk so I found coverage for my shift and called my DM. She NEVER asked how I was only “When will you be back?” I said I don’t know. When I got to the L&D floor they said they were going to hook me up to monitors for 8 hours. I told her and she said “Well when you get out I’ll need you to go back in and finish uploading the pictures of the floor set” again never asked how I was or the baby. Right then and there I decided I will never work for her again. I was going to work out my maternity leave (bc it was 15weeks)and find another job during that time. She also denied my 2 week bed rest time. Saying I could take one but then the 2nd I could just sit in a chair to train a new GM for a week. Then she had the audacity to give me a baby gift. I left it at the store. Covid hit so that made finding a new job impossible. 2 weeks before I was supposed to come back she called me and asked me to come back early bc the store was reopening from the shutdown and I really needed to be there. You’re not supposed to contact me on FMLA. Smh.. I luckily found a new job 3 months later!

I work at a hospital, and got into a car accident on the way to work. Obviously, I didn't think to call into work. My charge nurse kept calling me as I was in the ER of the hospital I work at. I was finally able to answer, and told her I was down in the ER because of a car accident. She demanded proof and told me it'd still be a no call no show. I asked the ER for a wheelchair, and rolled myself up to the floor I work on, to ask said charge nurse if she still wanted to mark me as a no call no show. Obviously everyone was mortified that she'd even say that to me, given we literally work in healthcare. She was let go not long after.

When I got newly promoted to a manager one of my employees daughter died unexpectedly. I asked my boss what we can do to support her and she said we offer her nothing and we expect her to be back in 3 days. I decided that she would take off whatever time she needed and that I would figure out the rest. If I was going to be fired for being human and kind I decided I was okay with that. I covered her work and I quit 1 month later. I was not okay working for an unethical and heartless company
