@windiwashington: During Golden Globes weekend, I had the opportunity to attend the TELLURIDE FILM FESTIVAL 2024 special tribute honoring Annette Bening at the Netflix Tudum Theater in Los Angeles on January 6, 2024. The evening began with Telluride Film Festival Executive Director Julie Huntsinger taking the stage to welcome the audience and introduce Annette Bening and Jodie Foster, setting the tone for an intimate and memorable celebration of Bening’s extraordinary career in film. Jodie Foster then sat down with her friend and NYAD co-star Annette Bening for a career-spanning conversation reflecting on Bening’s journey as an actor, her approach to the craft, developing and inhabiting characters, and the experiences that have shaped her decades of work on stage and screen. Their natural rapport made the conversation especially engaging. Beyond two celebrated actors discussing their craft, we were witnessing friends and creative collaborators whose connection would also be seen in NYAD, with Bening portraying legendary endurance swimmer Diana Nyad and Foster portraying her best friend and coach, Bonnie Stoll. The conversation was complemented by moments from Bening’s extensive body of work, creating a thoughtful retrospective of the performances and artistic choices that have defined her remarkable career. There were so many integral and important moments from this evening that I am revisiting the experience in three parts.
