@theunexpectedspy: I think the part I’m not understanding is why this is necessary. It seems to have worked for the last 25 years and certainly there are policies in place for unaccompanied minors. I don’t understand the need for the change #tsa #airport #security #safety
Are people so codependent that we need this? Unnecessary change that is adding more people to already long lines.

I flew out of Logan of all places Logan. I walked through TSA without showing my boarding pass. Just showed my license. I was dumbfounded. Same thing happened in Daytona. No boarding pass. It’s crazy

Yes, I always get a gate pass because I take my children to the gate before they fly and hand them out too because flight attendant

I'm already pre annoyed about this happening in SLC with returning Mormon missionaries. Families will crowd gates!

Yes it’s not needed. In 2005 I was going back to Iraq in uniform. At Oklahoma City my family was allowed to go with me to the gate. But the crazy thing was that I was searched like crazy while in Army uniform. But my family just had the normal metal detector.

I can think of a bunch of examples but will give you just 2. A mom is traveling with 2 small children. Allowing a family member to accompany her to the gate and another family to meet her at the landing gate would be a great help. A service member is flying out for deployment and their partner wants to spend every last minute with them before they leave for a year so they accompany them to the gate and sit with them until they board the plane. Everyone goes through security to get to the gate. If someone wanted to do something nefarious you seriously don’t think they would just buy a ticket?

I agree with you. As a mom with a young child I get the help would be nice but overall why start it. I’m sure they will just change it back then upset people.

You’ve been able to request a gate pass at ticket counters the whole time you just have to be with a ticketed after and you have to leave the secured area pretty quickly after their flight departs my understanding. I have done it one time.

My airport has had this for about 2 years. It’s a smaller airport I can’t imagine this at a larger airport like LAX bc TSA is already so busy there. It’s nice to be able to walk my mom to her gate. I don’t know what kind of safety precautions are being loosened when I go through the same screening and I’m already a pre-check passenger. My understanding is the airport has the discretion to not use the policy if it’s a busy day or they are understaffed. We are already restricted on the liquids which was what would’ve made the shoe bomber effective and 9/11 was a group of affiliated individuals with box cutters. I think one of the bigger risks is private plane travelers, and the lower security measures at private plane airports.

Just had this happen while traveling- only showed ID at both airports- Long Beach, Ca and Reno, NV. Didn't show boarding passes at all!
