Suck it up. It’s a family holiday. Stay at an Airbnb tho. Don’t do the 2 bed with 6 people. I would hate it too. It would be challenge but if you like the family you do have to sacrifice sometimes.

Being an adult means you do not have to do something you don’t want to. Tell him you will compromise and go but only if you book an air B&B. 8 people in a 2 bedroom… absolutely not!!!

If the town is boring, couldn’t you book a house in another town or city where everyone can stay? You could book some activities or plan to do touristy stuff so it feels more like a holiday.

plan a holiday in a nearby place that everyone can meet. I have a huge extended family and we plan a trip for the holidays and if you can make it, great, if you can't, see you next year

Tell him we go but book.an air b&b with extra bedrooms so there is room for everyone. Get one with a large sitting area for everyone to sit and spend time together and OP can go to their bedroom for privacy when she needs it. Plus the family can go to the other rooms to do other things.

Absolutely not! I have been married for 36 years today. We often separated during holidays. I was like, Baby go hang out with your family. I hung out with mine or stayed at home. It's not worth being bored and uncomfortable.

I completely understand how op feels, but This comes with the territory of being married. You didn’t marry a sea turtle who hatched completely separate from their family of origin. It’s not like some in-laws who live close by and expect you to spend every Sunday dinner with them. It’s once a year. Yes, it’s expensive, time consuming and uncomfortable. That’s the cost of having a life partner. Insist on an Airbnb and book it yourself so there is no “mistake”. If your MIL gets offended, that’s her choice. You can definitely point out that you literally spend $1000’s and spent hours crossing the ocean (probably in coach) to see her and you’re sorry if that doesn’t meet her definition of sacrifice but you have reached your sacrificial limit when it comes to being cramped. If she still chooses to kick up a fuss, then you can tell your husband “Look, I’ve put up with a lot and there is zero compromise or appreciation on your mom’s part. And for that reason, only make travel arrangements for yourself next year.”

Don’t get the Airbnb. Let him take care of everything. Sit there staring at everyone in that tiny house and let the experience remind him of how far they’ve come and then go back to your Italian home and live your big life.

Husband wanted to see his families totally understandable. I personally would not want to stay in a house with six other people with only two rooms. I would rent an Airbnb for everybody to stay in. Ask them to help chip in so that it’s more roomy, but you guys are still together
