Suck it up. It’s a family holiday. Stay at an Airbnb tho. Don’t do the 2 bed with 6 people. I would hate it too. It would be challenge but if you like the family you do have to sacrifice sometimes.

Tell him we go but book.an air b&b with extra bedrooms so there is room for everyone. Get one with a large sitting area for everyone to sit and spend time together and OP can go to their bedroom for privacy when she needs it. Plus the family can go to the other rooms to do other things.

If the town is boring, couldn’t you book a house in another town or city where everyone can stay? You could book some activities or plan to do touristy stuff so it feels more like a holiday.

Don’t get the Airbnb. Let him take care of everything. Sit there staring at everyone in that tiny house and let the experience remind him of how far they’ve come and then go back to your Italian home and live your big life.

plan a holiday in a nearby place that everyone can meet. I have a huge extended family and we plan a trip for the holidays and if you can make it, great, if you can't, see you next year

do it for your husband but sleep in an Airbnb, we too celebrate Xmas with his family and new year’s with my family. We live in an another country but return home for festive holidays. When you have your own children you will understand when they prefer to celebrate alone without you

OP is completely correct about not wanting to go. If she does suck it up, she needs to get the Air B&B. That living situation sounds miserable without the addition of guests and she’ll be happy with her past self for looking out like that. My real concern is that the husband may not be as into their international life as she is and is soft launching a return to sitting around and staring at his relatives in the US full time.
