I'm 2 yrs from paying my home,my plan is to take a loan on it to make the necessary repairs before I retire. Hopefully this will help me slide into my retirement.

It’s exactly where we are at. And in 5 more years we will be 65 and there is no way we will be able to even make the mortgage payment. We can’t retire now either as we couldn’t afford medical insurance. Everything is so fricken expensive. Gas, insurance, taxes, food. Just the basics. We are one of the lucky ones as we have a little bit of retirement funds and equity. We the people need to vote everyone out and start new because it’s only going to get worse.

My house doubled in equity in South Florida and sold it and bought a house for half the price of the original value in North Florida with land. The excess gain is in the market doing pretty well... enough to pay my normal monthly bills. Getting a new roof as we speak.

The only way we can keep it is by converting to an off grid, self-sufficient home. We put in a septic system and a wood stove for heat. Solar is next. We have chickens & a huge garden so we can grow and preserve food.

I dont fully understand this? If we sold our house we would have close to 600000. if we took that and invested it it would net about 30000 a yr in returns which is enough to rent a smaller place plus the expenses ie lower insurance, utilities and no repairs
