US Army petroleum specialist of 18 years here: you are correct that using lower grade or incorrect fuel types will degrade machinery quickly. Interestingly would be the impact on aviation fuel as it has very strict requirements to maintain aircraft operational ability. I’m talking just a few parts per million of contaminants maximum.

All of this has a knock-on effect around the world because that’s supply that’s being removed from global markets. All the people that used to buy that what and diesel now have to try to get it elsewhere, driving demand and cost.
