I don’t really like to pick who’s “the best” when it comes to backyard ultras, running, hiking, triathlons, or any other sport. Everyone comes into it with different circumstances, different abilities, different experience levels, different goals, and different challenges they’ve had to overcome just to get there.
Not everyone is chasing a podium or trying to prove they’re better than someone else. Sometimes the biggest accomplishment is simply showing up, pushing your own limits, and doing the best you can at something you enjoy.
Fast or slow, first or last, 5 miles or 100. I respect anyone willing to challenge themselves and keep going. You never really know what it took for someone to get to that starting line, and that alone deserves respect.
