My mom used to say Haj is in front of your door that means start by helping people the community be kind to the others and she was right nowadays it becomes a competition for collecting like bonds for paradise people lost the first meaning of the religion before going there try to be a good person

The truth is that one needs to do hajj if one can genuinely afford it, our prophet saws did not make this as a habit of having a fin journey, but for the people of this era it has become a vacation spot, going there every single year, putting in thousands and thousands in just so they can get money, marriage, etc etc, it has become a business even for those who are there to preform umrah. I personally know a family of 7 travelling there every single year paying +10k, why? so their own income doesn't fall, so they get what they ask for. It is incredibly selfish and sad.

Makkah was always a trading city. People came from all over from that region to buy and sell. One of the main trading routes in the region. The only difference is now it has high buildings and its expensive.
