Okay so I have a question bc this exact situation happened to me except I was the one paying the rent asking to split. He said he couldn’t. I said that’s fine, just give me what you were paying your landlord (meaning I was paying $2500/mo plus all utilities and household expenses and he was giving me $800) he felt like I was taking advantage of him but I don’t see it that way at all. Is that comparative to this? Am I slumlord or was he a bum?

if you want to split 50/50 both partners say their budget & you find something that costs twice the smaller budget. that way noone is over budget. if the person with the bigger budget wants a more expensive flat then they have to make up the difference

50/50 doesn’t always equal fair, is some makes 3x more then there partner, it’s not awful to suggest they pay more, as there more finically well off, people can contribute in otherwise to offset said difference
