@andrewmholness: Healthcare is an area that requires our continued attention and investment, both in infrastructure and in the people who deliver care. I recently spoke about the work we are doing to strengthen Jamaica’s health system, including the development of new facilities and the training of our healthcare professionals. One example is the investment in perfusionists, who play an important role in cardiac surgery. Through support from the CHASE Fund, scholarships were provided to train professionals in this specialised field. Today, these trained perfusionists are supporting cardiac surgeries in Jamaica. We are also looking at expanding our capacity through ECMO services, including the training of doctors, nurses and perfusionists to care for patients experiencing serious cardiac distress. I also want to see the University Hospital strengthened as a centre of excellence in cardiac care. This will require continued investment, training and collaboration across the health sector. The work takes time, but we are investing in the people, equipment and facilities needed to give Jamaicans access to quality healthcare here at home.
