👀 #FilmMunafik #MunafikMelawanIblis #MunafiknyaIndo #BahayaJadiMunafik #cpfMMI
The Stylistics, one of the most iconic Philadelphia soul groups of the 1970s, formed in 1968 and never officially disbanded. While they underwent significant lineup changes over the decades—most notably losing their legendary original lead singer in 2000—original members Airrion Love and Herb Murrell continue to tour and record as The Stylistics. 🎵 Fun Facts-"Betcha by Golly, Wow" (1972) It originally had a different name and singer-Written by Thom Bell and Linda Creed, the song was first recorded in 1970 by actress/singer Connie Stevens under the title "Keep Growing Strong". It failed to chart, but when The Stylistics re-recorded it with its iconic new title, it became a massive smash hit. Prince was obsessed with it: Pop legend Prince was a massive fan of the track, calling it "the most beautiful love song written." He famously covered it on his 1996 triple album Emancipation. A million-seller recorded by teenagers- Lead singer Russell Thompkins Jr. was only around 19 or 20 when recording the track, which features his trademark, pristine falsetto. The single went on to sell over one million copies globally. What the title actually means-The phrase is essentially a highly enthusiastic "Yes!". Breaking it down: "Betcha" (you can bet on it) + "By golly" (I swear to God) + "Wow" (an exclamation of excitement). Two different versions exist-The 3:17 radio single version is what most people know, but the 3:48 album cut features a completely unique instrumental break right before the finale. The Stylistics were formed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1968. The Merger-The group was born out of necessity when two local high school soul groups, The Monarchs and The Percussions, both started losing members to the Vietnam War draft. The Teacher's Idea-Airrion Love’s high school English teacher, Beverly Hamilton, suggested that the remaining members of both defunct bands join forces. The Original Lineup- Russell Thompkins Jr., James Smith, and Airrion Love (from The Monarchs) teamed up with James Dunn and Herb Murrell (from The Percussions). The Signature Sound-They signed with Avco Records and teamed up with producer Thom Bell, creating a string of 12 straight Top 10 R&B hits defined by lavish orchestral arrangements and Thompkins' soaring falsetto. The group never broke up, but their classic era slowly fractured due to internal friction and industry shifts The 1980 Departures-James Dunn and James Smith left the group in 1980 over creative disagreements regarding the band's musical direction. The 2000 Catalyst-The biggest blow came in 2000 when original lead vocalist Russell Thompkins Jr. officially left the group. He cited decades of internal tension, constant fighting, and heavy vocal strain that was causing him to lose his singing voice. He later formed his own touring group, Russell Thompkins Jr. & The New Stylistics. Still Going Strong- Despite the departures, remaining original members Airrion Love and Herb Murrell kept the trademark name. They recruited new lead singers over the years—including Eban Brown and currently Barrington "Bo" Henderson—and continue to tour worldwide. #thestylistics #oldies #oldiesbutgoodies #soultrain #soulmusic
