Shared Mountains, Shared Rivers : United in Weal and Woe Xizang Autonomous Region Delivers Emergency Aid Including Bailey Bridges to Nepal Handover Completed at Rizi Port On September 4, 2026, emergency relief supplies from the Xizang Autonomous Region, including Bailey bridges, were officially handed over to Nepal at Rizi Port in Shigatse. At the port, a bilingual banner in Chinese and Nepali read: “Shared Mountains, Shared Rivers — United in Weal and Woe: Xizang Rushes to Nepal’s Aid”, a poignant testament to the solidarity and mutual support between the two peoples in times of disaster. The aid shipment primarily consists of specialized equipment such as Bailey panels, reinforced suspension rods, support frames, bridge decking, and I-beams — sufficient to assemble two Bailey bridges. These will be used to help restore vital transportation links and support rescue and relief operations in Nepal's mudslide-hit areas. On the same day, a handover ceremony was held in Lhasa between the Foreign Affairs Office of the Xizang Autonomous Region and the Consulate General of Nepal in Lhasa. Nepal’s Consul General in Lhasa, Lakshmi Prasad Nirola, signed the handover certificate on behalf of the Nepali side. The Nepali side expressed heartfelt gratitude for China’s swift response in the wake of the disaster, noting that the Xizang Autonomous Region’s timely assistance exemplifies the deep bond of friendship between the two regions — connected by shared mountains and rivers, and bound together in times of hardship. The gesture was hailed as a vivid practice of building a China-Nepal community with a shared future.
