Infant Botulism is a progressive, descending condition that causes the muscles to work poorly. This has been talked about more recently due to the ByHeart recall on all formula, after several infants contracted Botulism from formula. The most common sign, and typically the first that is noticed, is constipation. The infant progressively will have difficulty feeding, have a weak cfry, appear floppy, have ptosis (eye drooping), facial weakness, and ultimately can lose control of their breathing. This is a medical emergency and patients should be evaluated quickly so the illness does not progress. The recall is on all byheart formula at this time. Just wanted to throw a refresher out there so you aren't caught with a deer in the headlights moment like I was yesterday. Baby Botox. Not good for babies.
