@thebsidemedia: Some songs do not really change. You do. I think that is what makes music like this so interesting. You can hear a song at 16 and love it, then hear the exact same song ten years later and suddenly realize you never really understood what it was saying. “The River” stops being a sad story and starts sounding like a warning about how quietly life can drift away from the one you imagined. “Leader of the Band” becomes harder to hear once you start seeing your parents as actual people, with sacrifices and regrets and entire lives that existed before you. “Black” becomes less about heartbreak and more about the strange reality of continuing to love someone who is no longer part of your life. Even songs like “Fast Car” change. At some point, the idea of doing something simply because you love doing it starts to feel a lot more meaningful than it did when success seemed like the only thing worth chasing. And then there is “Vienna.” I have written about that song enough that I probably do not need to explain why it is here, but I still think it captures this idea better than almost anything else. When you are young, you spend so much time trying to get somewhere. Older, more successful, more certain, more complete. Eventually you start realizing that there was never quite as much of a rush as you thought. The songs stayed the same. You just finally caught up to them. #music #creatorsearchinsights #songs #musictok #ComingOfAge

the boxer and the River hit me hard as a teenager altho my life experience didn't align with the lyrics as a adult they both hit me as hard and I still thankfully don't hv any of those life experiences. Great song writing makes u feel things u might not be able to relate to logistically but u can emotionally

Comfortably numb is the Pink Floyd song that hits hardest as an adult….”when I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse out of the corner of my eye. I turned to look but it was gone. I cannot put my finger on it now. The child is grown, the dream is gone”

Fast Car was just a good song when I was young. Now in my 40s it makes me tear up almost every time I hear it, and I NEVER skip it when it comes on

Gotta go with “Time” Pink Floyd as the King of songs about Time and how relatable it is to all of us… nice list though

I’ll never forget the exact moment that “Stop This Train” clicked in my brain. Time literally stood still even though I was flying 90 miles per hour down the interstate on the way home from College. It hits even harder now at 34.

I'm 55 yrs old. Kids have grown and moved out. I am in a good career and because I got a late start at college and having a "real" job, I will still be working until I can't. I have hit a point where I feel like I just exist. The lyric from John Cougar Mellencamp's Jack and Diane that says "oh yeah, life goes on, long after the thrill of living is gone" makes a hell of a lot of sense to me now.
