This goes further than the school district because what do you mean, officials are aware that a lady dropped her kids off with a strange man and they’re just letting said strange man keep the kids?

This is something I have always found interesting about the way our country is designed. If a regular person breaks the law the police and the system goes after them. But if system breaks the law (government or corporations) then suddenly the police have nothing to do with it and the wronged individuals have to pay for a lawyer to fight for them. Also these types of laws typically have no penalty for non-compliance other than to start complying

Years ago we lost our home and were staying in a hotel. We were discriminated against until I found out about Mckinney Vento and threatened to take it to court. Suddenly my kids were enrolled.

I’ve been a teacher for six years and every year they make us do a training on this. It’s impossible for the administrators at the school to not know about McKinney-Vento. This stuff is drilled into our heads.

Schools are not scared of the word FAPE anymore and it’s sad. This is why the dismantling of the DOE is dangerous, there is no clear federal oversight to help these kids.

Public schools KNOW about McKinney-Vento. Several administrators don’t like it. They’re wrong. Kids are LEGALLY ENTITLED TO AN EDUCATION. Living arrangements don’t erase that legal right.

So many districts violate the act it is really sad. District in Sacramento has been caught refusing transportation for homeless youth to their school of origin in violation of act.
