@ksbw_8: The Salinas Fire Department says a suspect is in custody after allegedly starting about 10 fires behind several businesses near Highway 101 on Monday evening. A battalion chief said firefighters were called around 2:35 p.m. for reports of a fire near Highway 101. When they arrived, they found about 10 fires along Highway 101, stretching from the exit near the Pilot gas station to the Hampton Inn. The fires were located in a drainage area next to Highway 101 near Elvee Drive, per the battalion chief. The fire department said the suspect was lighting fires as he walked along the nearly mile-long path. The largest fire was about a quarter-acre in size. All of the fires have been contained as of 3:27 p.m., the battalion chief said.
