Herdegen, a member of One Nation, was recently declared the winner of the Secret Harbour by-election by a convincing margin. While he will attend parliament, he can only watch from the gallery, as the election result will not be officially declared until Wednesday. Herdegen will face demonstrators gathered on the steps of parliament to protest comments he made about domestic violence during his campaign. When asked about party leader Pauline Hanson's description of domestic violence as a "two way street", Herdegen said "it's not something that anyone is talking about in the community here". Political commentator and protest co-organiser Megan McLeod said that the demonstration is about "accountability". "We’re asking for accountability - for the way men’s violence against women is spoken about, dismissed and minimised by people seeking public office," she wrote on @leftonmeg. The event, dubbed the "Bro-Test", deliberately mocks the push-up demonstrations staged by supporters of Andrew Tate outside a Miami detention facility. Advocates will be dressed in activewear while performing exercises. It will be a "women-led, peaceful protest" that uses "satire and tactical frivolity to stand against men’s violence against women and the normalisation of far-right politics". Speaking to Southern Cross Media, Herdegen claimed his comments were taken out of context. "What I was saying was that Pauline Hanson’s remarks were not something that was being talked about in the electorate to me," he said. "These guys will cling to anything that they can to try and make me look bad or the party look bad. They’re anti-Pauline Hanson people.
