A few years ago, I was working in the beauty industry. I had no tech background, no degree in anything related to tech, and absolutely no experience working for a software company. But I could see where the world was going. Everyone was talking about AI taking jobs, replacing industries and changing the way we work. So instead of being scared of it, I thought… why not move into the industry selling it? Because that’s where the money is. That’s how I found tech sales. Tech sales is basically helping software companies find new customers and generate revenue. In an entry level SDR or BDR role, you’re researching potential customers, reaching out to decision makers, starting conversations, qualifying opportunities and booking meetings for the sales team. And you do NOT need a tech degree. You do NOT need to know how to code. You do NOT need years of sales experience. People come into this industry from retail, recruitment, beauty, hospitality, admin, teaching, the NHS and completely unrelated careers. What matters is whether you can communicate well, build relationships, handle rejection, stay consistent and learn how to sell. And the earning potential is exactly why I talk about this career so much. Entry level roles can offer £65k to £85k OTE, and once you progress into closing roles like Account Executive, earning £100k+ becomes very realistic. So while everyone else is panicking about technology changing the job market, I’d rather learn how to make money from the companies building it. If you’re ambitious, good with people, commercially minded and want a career where your income can actually grow with your performance, tech sales is seriously worth looking into.
