Danny, respectfully, you cannot just leave a caption floating in the air saying “this guy is what’s wrong with the world” and start off with an image of Tony. I nearly spit out my drink 😭

I got sent to juvie for biting my mom in self defense, I don't think that constitutes being cast out from society.

The point of prison is reformation. You’re supposed to come out better than how you came in

Literacy is so important as you said for teaching empathy, but also critical thinking, two things that are lacking nowadays

.... I was in a juvenile facility as I was severely mentally ill stuck in an environment that had no idea what PTSD looked like in a child. I wouldn't be diagnosed until juvie sent me to the state mental hospital, 2 years after I was sent into the system.

"reprehensible" as though theyre all lil serial killers. the idea that punishment should outweigh trying to steer these kids to better behaviors is insane because then we just end up with troubled adults out in the wild. 1/5 of the US is functionally illiterate and we wonder why the country sucks.

100% fuck John Blanket. He is immediately going to most extreme examples of the most violent prisoners. He is neglecting the large portion of those in Jail for non-violent crimes who will be in there for shorter periods of time. It’s scientifically proven that if we educated those people they will be less likely to reoffend. So it is indeed a noble cause and one that will make our cities and streets safer while also giving others a brighter future. It’s a win-win!

"They should be cast out of society and given minimal attention." I'm pretty sure there are, like, several DOZEN movies, shows, and books showing why that's a BAD IDEA.

Most kids that end up in detention centers have behavioral issues because of their home life’s, most of them have bad or missed up home life’s or child hoods. If a kid ends up doing stuff that lands them in a detention center, it’s usually because their parents have failed them in some way.

education can lead to reform...which is the whole point of the prison system (SUPPOSED to be at least) like...reading can lead to them becoming better people instead of being life long criminals 😒
