He's not saying that. If he was, he wouldn't let unmarried parents stay home and get the money.

I doubt this will ever happen. It’s just another thing to make us not look at the war and the economy.

my wife is a SAHM of 4... we're not "well off"... I earn just enough to keep it heads above water and that's about it. So why isn't she working? Because daycare is obscenely expensive; if she worked too, her entire paycheck (if not more) would be going to pay the daycare. Then, if any kids had the slightest cough or fever or anything that kids frequently get at childcare centers or school, one of us would have to stay home to care for them, losing a day's wages but still owing the same childcare bill... Being a stay at home parent isn't necessarily for the well off, sometimes it's, shockingly, the only smart financial choice.

Doesn’t apply to single parents btw. They purposely excluded single mothers

How do people NOT understand the idea is to INCENTIVIZE what we WANT TO SEE in society (more stay at home parents, more intact and lasting households for children) that is an IMPROVEMENT for society, in every measurable metric. Versus the Dems/Libs' idea of "socialize all households, regardless of the outcomes". We KNOW, IRREFUTABLY, that single parent households are a HUGE drain on EVERY metric of the economy, society, and life of the American people. Why would they be AGAINST supporting intact families, better childhood outcomes, and a better society overall?

I’m a SAHM. 9k would be amazing but that’s a drop in the bucket if both parents are bringing home 60k each. Not much incentive for mom to leave her job unless she had a crazy long commute, low earnings and expensive day care for young children. My lib friends were shocked my private school teaching job wouldn’t hold my position for maternity leave- like, where did they expect that money to come from? I had to become a SAHM. Just bc Europe can do that doesn’t mean private schools in the US are set up to support long term maternity leave. Some middle ground would be great.

I don’t want per se people to suffer, but I’m also tired of the fact that my family does the right thing and doesn’t get benefits. My husband and I paid back our student loans in a timely manner so we don’t get to benefit from student loan forgiveness. We make too much money to get any benefits, but not quite enough money to not have to worry. And now the fact that I continue to be married to my husband, and I’m thus not a single parent means I shouldn’t get to benefit from staying home with my child. 🙄

@Anneshirley: i like this. if dad is working and mom has to work to make ends meet— and then daycare exists, it’s probably not worth the emotional costs too. but if those resources could supplement mom to stay home…sounds right

Hey what if we just increased the amount of funds for these programs so it can benefit both stay at home parents and working families?

We’d all have more money if there were less positions. There would be more money to pay employees, more competition and degrees would mean something again. If one parent stayed home that’s great for families too. Next order of business is bringing back American manufacturing to keep our money flowing in-house.

Without increasing appropriations for the fund it's simply a way to siphon money from the poor to the wealthy, just like school voucher programs
