My theory is that what if even if he had never looked back they would have never made it out, the path would have been infinite because it’s a metaphor of grief and when he turn back to finally face her it was actually him just accepting that she is gone..

the fact is that it wasnt euridecy he didnt trust he didnt trust hades to keep his word, I couldnt imagine walking 3 years just to get home and realize she was never behind me when I finally make it back

I have this saved in my notes. I don’t fully agree with the take that “an Orpheus who doesn’t look back is an Orpheus who never would have gone to the Underworld” or that “to love is to look.” It’s a beautiful line, but it turns the myth into a moral test where looking equals love and not looking equals a lack of love, and I think that’s too black and white. If you swapped the myth characters with Peeta and Katniss, Peeta would probably look back because he’s wired for reassurance and connection and he would want to see that she’s there and okay. But Katniss might not look, not because she loves less, but because she’d be stubborn and strategic and she’d know that looking could risk losing him. She’d force herself to follow the rule because the goal is getting him out, not easing her own panic for one second. So for me the “look back” reads more like human doubt and fear under extreme pressure, not proof that love was real or not real. Different people love differently, and not looking can be love too.

I love the interpretation where them walking is an endless cycle that is gonna go on forever. it Symbolizes how people like orpheus still longs for the past and doesn't want to let it go. looking back is choosing to let the cycle end and accepting that what is past is past and you can never go back. That's why when orpheus turned it shows him that he really loves eurydice because they will never ever see each other if they keep going on like this. that's why we can see them reunited when orpheus die. if he hasn't turned around they will probably still keep walking and will fail sooner as what hades stated
