Here's a concise summary of what happened
In February 1966,Isaac Adaka Boro, an Ijaw nationalist from the Niger Delta, declared the Niger Delta Republic to protest the neglect and exploitation of the oil-rich region. The uprising, known as the Twelve-Day Revolution, was quickly crushed by federal forces with support from the Eastern Regional Government led by Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, who was then the Military Governor of the Eastern Region. Boro was arrested and sentenced to death for treason.
After the July 1966 counter-coup, Boro was pardoned and released by the new federal government under Yakubu Gowon. When Ojukwu declared Biafra's independence in 1967, Boro chose to fight for the Federal Government instead. Many Niger Delta minorities feared they would be dominated in an independent Biafra, so Boro believed staying in Nigeria better protected their interests.
During the Nigerian Civil War, Boro's knowledge of the Niger Delta helped federal forces recapture key oil-producing areas, weakening Biafra. He was killed in action in 1968, though the exact circumstances of his death remain uncertain.
The irony is striking: Ojukwu helped suppress Boro's attempt to break away from Nigeria in 1966 instead of joining his brother to break away from this zoo called Nigeria, but a year later Ojukwu himself led Biafra's secession, while Boro fought to keep Nigeria united.
Mind you even the ijaws were know as igbos back then. So you see how the actions of ojukwu to help Nigeria against boro caused this issue
The real story 💯
