so would it be fair to say that even though same-sex marriage is not legal, in practice society in China is still accepting of LGBT ppl? just trying to wrap my head around the culture vs the law, and why gay marriage isn’t recognized if the country is safe for gay ppl

Ive always wondered if the claim that ccp doesn’t allow explicit depiction of gay relationships in movies and tv shows is true

I meant the Confucian ideas regarding family consent and the whole body ‘laws’ saying that changing your body is a crime against your parents and ‘god’. I know you can go to China dressed like yourself and Madeline Pendleton, drag queens even exist but gender markers, laws surrounding discrimination, public talking about transgender people, and access to medication/surgery is the most important to me

That may not have hate crimes, but they also don't have great legal protections for queer people. Especially, trans people. Getting trans care in China is about as difficult as a red sate in the the US. I wanted to move to China, but changed my mind when I saw they have like no legal protection for queer people. Queer legal protection matters. Having no hate crime is great, but seriously need to step it up ALOT with the legal queer protection.

I genuinely think the myth that China is particularly homophobic, comes from people visiting their family in China. But if we base everything off of that, Portugal is the most homophobic place on the planet because my grandmother in bum fuck nowhere Portugal is homophobic
