I remember a time when I was told I was doing great work, yet I wasn't getting promoted. And the reason was because my peers didn't trust me and that stung because I knew I was the one to blame. Peer relationships can be the deciding factor in advancing your career. So here are three practical ways to build and nurture trusted peer relationships that should propel you forward. 1 - Always keep the big picture in mind. Sometimes you or your peers get competitive or protective. And when that can happen, you need to step up and be the leader in that situation. Bring everybody back to common ground, and reinforce the big-picture objectives that you all share. 2 - Listen with the intention to understand. You become more valuable to your entire team when you listen for understanding. Ask questions, empathize with what others are saying, and validate their perspectives. When you seek to understand your peers will feel heard, and they will perceive you as an open collaborative problem solver. And this creates a safe space for them to share their thoughts and ideas with you. 3 - Be the beacon of trustworthiness. Let's face it. There are peers out there who aren't trustworthy, they might gossip, throw people under the bus, or really make it difficult to get the job done. It's understandable if you don't want to trust these people. However, that doesn't mean that you can't be trustworthy yourself. You can still role model trustworthiness maintain confidentiality, follow through on your promises, and have your peers back. When you demonstrate reliability, you cultivate a reputation as a trustworthy leader and a team player. #leadershiptok #corporatetok #leadership #bealeader #leadershipskills #executivecoach #corporatelife #successincorporate #worklife
