![AI might actually be perfect for the Backrooms. Kane Parsons has made it clear that he doesn’t want to use generative AI in his creative process, and I respect that, but I also think liminal horror is one of the few genres where AI’s flaws could actually make the art better. The weird faces, impossible spaces, dreamlike architecture, and uncanny feeling that something is just slightly wrong fit the Backrooms almost perfectly. A lot of AI art in 2023 and 2024 had that exact unsettling quality where it looked almost real, but your brain knew something was off. In most projects that’s a problem. In the Backrooms, that could literally be the aesthetic. I’m not saying Kane should change his creative direction, but I do think AI could open up a really interesting new style of liminal horror.
