@wherethepathnarrows: Hampton Court Palace, October 2003 — it began as a maintenance fault. A fire door down one of the corridors kept being found open, three nights running, so security did the obvious thing and pulled the CCTV to see who was doing it. The tape showed the doors swinging open with nobody there. The next night, it showed a figure in a long robe with an unnaturally pale face step out of the doorway, take hold of the door, and pull it shut behind him. The guard who found it told the press: "It was incredibly spooky because the face just didn't look human... My first reaction was that someone was having a laugh, so I asked my colleagues to take a look. We spoke to our costumed guides, but they don't own a costume like that." The palace's own spokeswoman said: "It's not a joke, we haven't manufactured it. We genuinely don't know who it is or what it is." More than twenty years on, nobody has come forward, and the palace still cannot explain it. Dramatised from the security guard's own statements. 🎙️ Who closed the door?
