I have a friend who used numbing cream to get a large tattoo. she could have broken it into two sessions but got it down in one to save money thanks to numbing cream. she ended up with a bad case of tattoo flu and I think it's cuz she couldnt tell when her body needed to stop.

My artist uses this numbing spray. Which works AFTER the skin has been opened up. So he will do a section then spray me and go use the bathroom or get a drink. Come back and repeat till it’s done. It works AMAZING and I still get the build up but never really go above a 5.

I got a back/spine tat and just dealt with it😂🤷🏻♀️believe me I wanted to tap out a few times but me and my tattoo artist joke about him 𝚊𝚋𝚞𝚜𝚒𝚗𝚐 me and how I’m paying for him to 𝚊𝚋𝚞𝚜𝚜 me. The jokes and conversations really helped me keep my mind with the especially painful parts or when it really got too much I put my airpods in and focused on the music. I mostly do big pieces so the piece on my back covers my whole spine, shoulderblades, middle back and lower back and my artist asked me not to use numbing cream because the ones we get in SA hold for about 20min at most and it was a 10 hour tattoo so it would’ve been pointless

My daughter used numbing cream. But she did say it wore off kinda quick. But it never bothered her. I’m sure she said it was three 6 hour sessions. The first being prep, sketch and outline

Question for tattoo artists, why do you rub a dry paper towel instead of a softer materiel or a paper towel with Vaseline or something on it, why always a rough dry paper towel?

Pain is an indicator of what the body should tolerate. Numbing that receptor is dangerous. His body is convulsions for a reason.

I enjoy the pain and it numbs itself after a few minutes. I also have issues 😂

Just do several appointments. I don’t get why people try to tough it out. That piece is huge.

People in these comments saying “it’s right of passage “ “you shouldn’t get a tattoo then” blah blah blah if you are going to get a tattoo for just the “pain” that’s a different issue entirely 😂

So I’m assuming there are meatheads out there that think it’s a super flex to endure a tattoo with all the pain 😳

Best argument I’ve heard against using numbing cream. The usual argument is something like “you’re a bitch if you use numbing cream”.

pretty sure that was his nervous system shutting down from the pain. the shakes, sweats and body is freezing. I had the same thing in natural child birth. 😂😂😂

And something I just figured out being a redhead numbing cream does nothing for me. I tried using it. It didn’t work at all. I knew we had a higher tolerance for anesthesia. I didn’t know that extended to numbing cream lol.

thank you. i too am an advocate for numbing creams. never had issues...only thing is dont wrap it with the numbing cream on once that tat is done. other than that, enjoy more clientelle who otherwise would probably not get one.

this is why its always made more sense to me to do all the line work first and then shade until they tap. their next session is just shading which is usually less painful if your artist knows what theyre doing and your skin takes the ink well. you also wont have to re-apply any stenciling. that said, i dont do tats, i just have them.

I wouldn't do numbing cream the whole point of the tattoo is to feel it in my eyes
