@20vc_tok: Why has Apple failed so badly at building an AI assistant? Jean-Denis Greze co-founder and CEO of Town, argues that Apple has two major disadvantages: cloud isn’t in its DNA, and its commitment to on-device privacy keeps its AI slower, less capable and far from the frontier. Can Apple catch up without rethinking its approach to privacy?
Honestly being non cloud dependant is a huge reason to get a ipone versus a google where they kill a lot of their services or Samsung who don't seem to believe in themselves

The current token prices are subsidized to help by the providers, and already has shaky economics. The only way for them to go profitable is models becoming more efficient, which immediately makes local inference more viable.

They don’t know how to do cloud? What a thoughtless thing to say 😂 I actually think they’ve made a smart move. SLMs are getting better and better and are ultimately free. They’re exposing themselves to LLMs through externals so they limit their financial risk. Sure, it may not put them at the forefront but it sounds like a good strategy of mitigating bubble risk
