@pubity: Don Pettit has spent more than two decades watching our cities change from space. 🚀🛰 Since his first ISS mission in 2003, the NASA astronaut and photographer has captured hundreds of nighttime images of cities around the world. Now, after four missions aboard the station, he’s highlighting how the transition from warmer orange street lighting to brighter LED lighting has changed the view of our cities from orbit. 🌎 The difference is pretty incredible to see. 👀 Credit: Don Pettit / NASA #Pubity #Space #NASA #Photography
sodium light is actually better for reducing light pollution. leds also fuck with your natural sleep cycle so it's honestly really unfortunate we use them for everything, just bevause they're cheaper

Hate the LEDs. Everything is just way too bright. Seeing at night is cool, but being BLINDED? Yeah, not a fan.

Y'all seem to forget, it wasn't those LED's that would tell us to come home once it was dark enough. It was those orange lights that we stood under, after the long day of playing outside with our friends. It's under those lights, that we drove home from the movie theater, and our parents carried us in the house and put us to bed. It's those lights that guided many of us home from camping trips, or even trips to grandma's house after a day of baking cookies and acting crazy.
The world has been losing its colour, for a very long time.

Seeing all the “protect the earth” people stop care about the earth the second LED lighting comes up is always hilarious. They’d rather use vastly less efficient sodium lights because they think they look pretty

i personally like it. i can see the "world is loosing its color" comments, but the color just went from yellow to light blue, and that yellow took way more energy to produce.

I don't like it. Yeah, it's "cheaper" per light, but when light production is cheaper, you do it more, and the result is blinding. We need less light pollution, not more.

The yellow soft lights were so much better. Everything in 2003 was better I wish we puke go back. This AI tech crap is destroying humanity. Social media is killing society. We need to go back 20 years if we want to save society. I’ve been saying that for years.

how come instead of five 60W bulbs running every night I now have five 8W bulbs yet my power bill has only gone up... wasnt that part of the reason to switch.

Light pollution aside, I recall power savings being big driver for change. What happened to all of that power saved by consumers? Here in the US we still get fleeced by the utility companies claiming more revenue demands for infrastructure upgrades and executive pay raises, power shortages driving brownouts. 🤔
