And this isn’t just me losing my mind at the checkout (almost $10 for a couple of soft cucumbers, seriously?). The ACCC found that a typical basket of groceries increased by more than 20% in five years, and Coles and Woolies together account for around 67% of Australian supermarket sales. Wtf is that? The ACCC ALSO found that the major supermarkets increased their average product margins over 5 years making them some of the most profitable supermarket businesses…GLOBALLY. Meanwhile, prices are STILL bloody climbing. We are getting absolutely slaughtered by the cost of feeding our families. So where I can skip the big supermarkets, I will. This is Sun’s Fresh Farm in Western Sydney. I’d rather come straight to the source, buy beautiful fresh produce, support the people actually growing and selling it, and in my experience pay a FRACTION of what my equivalent haul would cost at the supermarket. Keep your flybuys and rewards while you pretend $7.50 is a “deal” all because you put a yellow sticker next to it.
