@justinfreakin: Now Idiot Trump Thinks He Can Rename New Mexico Trump posted a series of maps showing New Mexico renamed as “New America.” Trump on Sunday also posted an AI-generated video of himself pasting an “America” sticker over “Mexico” on a sign welcoming visitors to the state and a map with “Mexico” crossed out of the state’s name and replaced with “America,” which the White House reshared the image on its X account. Democratic leaders in the state blasted the suggestion: Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham said, “New Mexico’s name isn’t up for debate—it’s been ours since before the United States existed,” and accused the president of trying to “distract Americans from his disastrous war in Iran.” Democratic Sens. Martin Heinrich and Ben Ray Luján and Rep. Melanie Stansbury, D-N.M. also rejected any renaming, with Stansbury writing “Oh hell no!” on X, adding, “our state’s name carries generations of history, culture, and family—and it belongs to us,” while Heinrich wrote that he will still call Lake Ontario and the Gulf of Mexico by their original names, despite Trump signing executive orders to rename them.
