This is completely unacceptable and uncalled for. Young people have every right to express their anger and frustration peacefully—whether by protesting, holding candles, or demanding answers—but that does not justify vandalizing an entire police station. That said, I put much of the blame on President Barrow and his government. How can a police station like Farato Police Station operate without even a motorbike? When there is no electricity and the police have no proper means of transportation or support, what do you expect when an angry crowd shows up and overwhelms them? The government can find millions to purchase expensive vehicles and pickups worth D2.5 million for politicians, yet it cannot provide a basic seven-seater vehicle costing around D350,000 for a police station to help officers protect themselves and maintain law and order. This is beyond frustrating. We cannot continue running a country where politicians are provided with luxury vehicles while the very institutions responsible for protecting citizens are left without basic resources. This country is seriously failing its people.
