Some people value you for what you do for them. They love your availability, generosity, connections, money, or ability to solve their problems. But the moment you set boundaries, say no, or become unavailable, their attitude suddenly changes. That change can hurt, but it can also reveal the truth. Sometimes, you did not become selfish. You simply stopped abandoning yourself to keep other people comfortable. You stopped answering every call, solving every problem, lending money you could not afford to give, or constantly making sacrifices just to maintain a relationship. And suddenly, you became “difficult.” Pay attention to that. The people who genuinely value you will not disappear simply because you have nothing to offer them. They will respect your boundaries. They will check on you when you need support. They will celebrate your growth without feeling threatened by it. Their relationship with you will not depend on what they can gain from you. You are more than your usefulness. You are more than your money, connections, availability, or ability to solve problems. You are worthy even when you need help, when you are tired, or when you have nothing to give except your honest presence. So do not be afraid to outgrow relationships built around your availability. Give from love, but never from fear. Be generous, but have boundaries. Sometimes losing people is not a punishment, but protection. Watch carefully.
