I’m still excited for the show despite the color changes. Like what if the show is going for a darker tone? You can already tell that it’s a bit darker and not as upbeat

There are plenty of movies/shows make total sense being dull and grey, Harry Potter and most superhero movies are not it though and yet they are the biggest victims of this dulling of media

I agree, also the new show looks to have much less detail with regard to props and sets… and the color is the cherry on top.

It looks like that to fit the tone. It's meant to be from a realistic perspective, outside the fantastical lens of a child bc the books and movies were only from Harry's view. There is actually more production design, a fact from the behind the scenes that can be noticed by paying attention to backgrounds. Yikes.

We saw the vibrancy of colour drain through the previous Harry Potter film franchise. It could be argued that by doing that you have a way that shows how grim and dark the world becomes over the course of the films but I think that's lazy. I wholeheartedly agree with your take. So many TV shows and films lack colour and vibrancy, and more importantly warmth.

I agree with your overall point, but I personally dont actually dislike the grim look of the new harry potter. I do prefer the overarching idea the movies had that the first ones were colorful and it changed as the movies went on, but something about the darker colorgrading for the first season/book kinda fits

What genuinely happened to colour in cinema? Coyote V acme had vibrant colours obviously, but it’s sad how colour has gotten worse over the years.

I just rewatched The Neverending Story last night, that movie is not colorful at all! and then you watch the trailer for a horror movie like Buddy and it's super colorful. it's almost as if thousands of movies and shows get made every year and some are colorful and some are not.
