Power BI Copilot can now answer questions off your semantic model, build a whole report page from one paragraph, and follow rules you write yourself. The catch nobody explains is that Copilot is not part of Power BI Pro. You need a paid Microsoft Fabric capacity, and the good news is the floor dropped from F64 to F2, which runs a couple hundred dollars a month. An M365 Copilot licence does not cover any of this. I walk the full setup first: creating the Fabric capacity in Azure, the two tenant settings that actually switch Copilot on, and how to tell it worked. Then three things I ran on the F9 Coffee Co. model. Asking it for a chart that does not exist on the page and getting sales revenue actual versus budget by location. The last part is where this gets interesting for anyone doing serious FP&A automation. Prep data for AI lets you simplify the data schema so every prompt costs less capacity and runs faster, pin verified answers to the exact chart you want returned, and write AI instructions in plain English.
