@claireauden: This is why abusers continually accuse YOU of being controlling. #narcissisticrelationship #covertnarcissist #narcissistbehavior #narcissisticabuse
Before our first date he was complaining about his job. And i got it because it was demanding and he used to throw his back out (I’d pick him up from the floor in the shower). We promised each when we got married that we’d make each other the best versions of ourselves. Fast forward a year in or so, I rewrote his resume for him and got him an administrative 9-5. Towards the end he admitted he was cheating with a coworker and had “anger and resentment” towards me because I controlled his career to get more time with him now that he had a fixed schedule. The cheating was a way to get back at me for how controlling I was. I hate him but more so myself for existing

Wow, this is so accurate to my experience. That’s the victim story she was telling one of the “just friends” guy she was cheating with. I was so controlling and treated her like a possesion, like my property she told him (I read her texts because I suspected her of cheating, I don’t feel great about it) you know, for asking her to stop having an affairs! I wanted healthy relationship boundaries that in retrospect, wouldn’t even need to be said in a normal situation! They’re obvious to most. Built in to the meaning of relationship. She always had a male friend she’d party with and spend the night with. A string of them for 20 years. Each lasted about two years, until they’d get too close I observed. But I was crazy for thinking there was anything going on. I was controlling. And now through telling these stories to others who didn’t live through narcissistic abuse say it’s my fault for staying and putting up with it! I’m blamed and shamed on both ends.

👏This may help explain why they are able to treat strangers more positively than those with whom they have a close relationship. The relative emotional distance of the stranger does not activate the same expectations, vulnerabilities, or relational anxieties that may arise within established attachments. Paradoxically, greater emotional connection and relational proximity may therefore trigger greater discomfort, defensiveness, or dysregulation, making intimacy more difficult to tolerate than superficial or emotionally distant interactions. your have a better relationship with them if you are a stranger.🙏
