The World Owes the Catholic Church for the Bible Without the Catholic Church, you would not be holding a Bible today. Not a Protestant one, not an Orthodox one, not any one at all. The book that shaped Western civilization, inspired countless saints, and changed the course of human history exists because Catholic monks, popes, and councils preserved it, defined it, and copied it by hand for over a thousand years before the printing press was even invented. After the apostles died, the early Christians had scattered letters, gospels, and Old Testament writings, but no single agreed Bible. It was Catholic bishops at the Council of Hippo in the year three hundred ninety-three and the Council of Carthage in three hundred ninety-seven who finally declared the official list of inspired books. Without those councils, no Christian today would even know which writings belong in Scripture. The very table of contents in your Bible is a Catholic gift to the world. Then came Saint Jerome, commissioned by Pope Damasus to translate the Scriptures from Hebrew and Greek into Latin. The result was the Vulgate, completed around the year four hundred and five, which became the Bible of the entire Western world for more than a thousand years. And when civilizations crumbled and empires fell, Catholic monks in candlelit monasteries quietly copied every word of Scripture by hand, treating each letter as sacred, generation after generation. When Johannes Gutenberg printed the first book in Western history in the fourteen hundred fifties, it was the Catholic Latin Vulgate. The first printed Bible on earth was a Catholic Bible. Jesus himself promised that the Spirit of truth would guide his Church into all the truth, and Saint Paul called the Church the pillar and bulwark of the truth. History simply confirms what Scripture already revealed. #Catholic #Bible #CatholicChurch #ChurchHistory #Scripture credit video IG reels catholicsharehq
