Bosses are going to come to you with last-minute things that need to be done by 5 p.m. That’s what they do. Here are 4 ways leaders handle that situation without adding more work to their plate.    1. Ask why.  Don’t be defensive… simply get curious and ask why it needs to be done by 5.  That’ll help you either prioritize the project and/or identify if there’s a smaller piece of the overall project that really needs to be done vs. the whole thing. 2. Divide and conquer.  You don’t have to take it on yourself and you don’t need to assume the team can’t handle it right now.  If this is a real emergency go to your team and see how you can work together to solve it and defer other deadlines to make room. 3. Ask for help.  After you’ve had a chance to suss out your team’s resources, you can ask others for help. You can bring in other departments or even your boss to chip in.  Your job as a leader is to get creative about solutions… not do everything yourself or simply pile on. 4. Manage up for the future.  I don’t recommend doing this at the moment, but when they’re open to hearing it, you can subtly help your boss understand the impact of last-minute projects on the team’s deliverables.  You want to encourage them to make the last-minute ask for the exception vs. the rule.  #leadershiptok #corporatetok #leadership #bealeader #leadershipskills #executivecoach #corporatelife #successincorporate #workloadmanagement #manageup
