Nah, they didn't prove Navier-stokes equations. They just want to create expectation for the market value to raise before the IPO...

i dont understand what it would mean to "solve" navier-stokes
like we used navier-stokes in thermo and fluids but how do you "solve" it

wtf are we supposed to do? Every technical field is under threat. I’m telling you, we won’t last five years. Humanity will either kill itself or we’ll wish that it had.

AI should be barred from mathematics. It’s truly soulless to imagine the future of human thought will be lead by AI.

Ah yes, humanity’s greatest pursuit, the relentless drive to discover and understand the unknown, being outsourced to two multibillion-dollar AI corporations. Truly sad to see

Solving the millennium prize puzzle about NS would make for an interesting factoid, but wouldn't actually necessarily make any meaningful improvements to the process by which we solve NS in given situations.

About the training: if you opt out of training in settings, OAI should not be able to use data for training; or did they not disable it in settings?

Scummy behaviour, but given the expected valuation of the IPO for either company (close to or over $1 trillion) and the fact that these IPOs might completely flop, I understand why they are acting like this. A great achievement such as this one would really help them to sell the idea that their LLMs can create new insights in math.
Currently, numerous companies are struggling to demonstrate productivity improvements or cost reductions resulting from their expensive AI deployments.

Navier-stokes doesn't capture nonlinear behaviors. We've "solved" it for functional systems for decades, but real world use requires models of turbulence and other factors that were never part of it. Mathematicians gonna larp and say "one more proof bro"
