@lemonzkq8yj: Corion Evans, a 16-year-old Pascagoula High School student, jumped into the Pascagoula River in Moss Point, Mississippi, after watching a car carrying three teenage girls plunge off a boat launch and begin to sink. The incident happened around 2:30 a.m. on July 3, 2022, when the driver told police she had been following her GPS and did not realize she was heading into the water. The car floated roughly 20 feet from shore before sinking, and the three girls scrambled onto its roof screaming for help. Evans ran over, tore off his shoes and shirt, and dove in. “I was just like, ‘I can’t let none of these folks d*e. They need to get out the water,’” he told Mississippi ABC affiliate WLOX. “So, I just started getting them. I wasn’t even thinking about nothing else.” Moss Point Police Officer Garry Mercer also swam out to help but swallowed water while bringing one girl toward shore, prompting Evans to assist him and the teen out of the water as well. All three girls and Mercer were taken to the hospital and recovered. On July 5, Moss Point Mayor Billy Knight presented Evans and Mercer with Certificates of Commendation.
