"Mera Piya Ghar Aaya" is one of the most cherished Sufi kalams ever written. Penned by the legendary mystic poet Hazrat Bulleh Shah, it expresses the ecstatic joy of the soul upon reuniting with the Divine Beloved. While the words speak of a beloved returning home, Sufi philosophy interprets this reunion as the end of spiritual separation-a moment where the seeker finds eternal peace in the presence of the Almighty. The qawwali achieved worldwide recognition through the unforgettable rendition of Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, whose powerful interpretation transformed it into one of the defining masterpieces of Sufi music. His legacy inspired countless qawwals, including Farid Ayaz & Abu Muhammad, whose rendition carries the same spiritual intensity while preserving the rich traditions of the 700-year-old Qawwal Bachchon Ka Gharana of Delhi. This performance was recorded during the Festival of Kabir in Bangalore, India, on 1 March 2009. Organized by The Kabir Project, the festival celebrated the shared heritage of Bhakti and Sufi poetry by bringing together artists from India and Pakistan through music, dialogue, and cultural exchange. Every verse reminds us that the truest homecoming is not worldly-it is the soul returning to its eternal Beloved. 17 Title: Mera Piya Ghar Aaya Poetry: Hazrat Bulleh Shah Performed by: Farid Ayaz & Abu Muhammad Genre: Sufi Qawwali Event: Festival of Kabir Venue: Bangalore, India Recorded: 1 March 2009 Original Presentation: The Kabir Project (Ajab Shahar) Edit & Presentation: Retro Mehfil "Who is the Beloved that has come home, and who is the watchman counting time?"
