The ceremony on Sept. 11 will mark 25 years since the Terr*rist Att*cks that changed New York forever. Giuliani, who was mayor during 9/11, said on Newsmax that Mamdani should not attend Ground Zero. “Having lost friends there and being very close to many of the families, it offends me that he’s coming,” Giuliani said. Mamdani, however, is not changing his plans. Last week, the mayor signed executive orders making Sept. 11 an annual citywide “Day of Remembrance and Service” and updating New York’s emergency preparedness procedures. When asked about the upcoming ceremony, Mamdani said his attention would remain on the people directly affected by that day. He said he wanted the focus to be on families who lost loved ones and the first responders who “gave everything” to New York. “I’m proud to be the mayor of this city,” Mamdani said. “I love this city. I love this country.” He declined to engage further with Giuliani’s criticism. The disagreement comes as New York prepares for one of the most emotionally significant 9/11 anniversaries yet. For Mamdani, his message is that the day should remain centered on remembrance, service and the people whose lives were permanently changed.
