Teacher here. Also mother of three and grandmother to one who’s in kindergarten right now. This is very common the first couple minutes of school. They’re just navigating to the most familiar kid. If you ask your daughter, she’s gonna have a different view about what happened. most likely she’s gonna tell you how everybody loved her and she had a great day. if you talk about everybody loving her and having a great day, she will see her world that way, and the world will kind of fit. It will become that because that’s what happens in kindergarten that’s what happens when they’re little. It’s OK mama she’s gonna be OK.

Play dates! I advocate for play dates with her classmates on the weekends, involve her in sports.

Use this as a teaching/reinforcement opportunity about boundaries/personal space, different personalities, moods ie not a morning person, empathy etc. Sucks either way to see your kids feelings get hurt. Stay strong mama!

tell her to go to the buddy bench. I tell my 6 yr old to make sure if anyone is there that he goes up and introduces themselves. I am sure other parents do that too. sorry she had a bad start to the day.

it's so hard watching them go through tough times. I promise it gets easier and she will find friends quickly. some kids are overwhelmed at the beginning of the day and warm up later.

Your poor little and your poor mom heart!!! That happened to my social butterfly last year a few times 😭 and it was all okay over the rest of the year... I'm about to get her up for her first day of kindergarten and I'm TERRIFIED that it'll happen today...

Take a breath momma. I completely understand you. Mine are now 18 & 21; gone through this a few times. I bet within 10mins the other kids were playing with her. Each day it will get better. Hugs to you!!

my oldest is autistic. she didnt make nay friends at school until 1st grade. then she slowly made some friends and now in 7th grade has a huge friend group. give it time. if shes very outgoing/boisterous, theres a chance that other kids may not know how to handle that yet. a lot of these kids havent ever been around kids their own age all day and are getting used to it. they will learn to adjust and make friends with kids who are different from them just like your daughter will learn to adjust and make friends with them. believe in her that shes got this and that she is strong and smart enough to figure this out. 💜 it can be so hard to feel our kids rejection for them, but these are all important learning moments. sending hugs.

my now 9 year old daughter had this exact experience at dance class when she was little. She's always such a social butterfly and the shy kiddos would basically turn and hide at her approach. But kids are resilient and she's found her people and now she's heading out every day to play with friends who want to be with her! Her spirit won't be crushed from this, the other kids will be strengthened, don't worry mama!!!
